Gears
Double helical or
herringbone gears
Double
helical gears, or herringbone
gear, overcome the problem of axial thrust presented by
"single" helical gears by having two sets of teeth that
are set in a V shape. Each gear in a double helical gear
can be thought of as two standard mirror image helical gears
stacked. This cancels out the thrust since each half of the gear
thrusts in the opposite direction. Double helical gears
are more difficult to manufacture due to their more complicated
shape.
B & H Gears produce all
sizes of double helical or herringbone gear in a
wide variety of materials.
Face gears
A face gear normally
consists of a disc shaped gear grooved on a least one side, in
combination with a spur, helical or conical pinion. A face
gear has a planar pitch surface and a planar root surface,
both of which are perpendicular to the axis of rotation. It can
also be referred to as a face wheel, crown gear,
crown wheel, contrate gear or contrate wheel.
B & H gears manufacture all types of face gears, use the contact
